My name is Marlies Gabriele Prinzl, PhD, and I am a freelance editor. Currently, I am based in Seoul, South Korea, but work remotely with clients worldwide.
I specialise in working with academics and journalists (including photojournalists), and also frequently work with individuals who are multilingual and non-native speakers of English. As I have a keen sense of curiosity and can get intrigued by just about anything, I enjoy working with a wide range of topics and across fields and disciplines. I especially love long-form journalism and research projects that dig deep, ask important, topical questions and engage my mind. So, if you are passionate about the work you do, I am your editor.
Background
I grew up with multiple languages in different countries, an upbringing that makes me particularly sensitive to regional variations and cultural nuances. With a solid academic background in literature, linguistics and translation, I worked as a tutor at the Writing Lab at University College London (UCL), a top British university, for four years. Given my education and training, I thought I would go on to become a translator but then realised that I enjoy editing a lot more!
Some things I love: Language(s). Monsoon. Soondubu jiggae. Good tea and coffee. Both Kanji and Hangeul. Running and cooking a lot. And living everywhere.
Places I have called home: Austria, Thailand, Taiwan, USA, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Scotland, Costa Rica, England, and, currently, South Korea.

Furthermore, I am an alumna of Taipei American School and the United World Colleges (UWCUSA), where I obtained a bilingual IB diploma.

- Previously worked as a literature and theory of knowledge teacher and language tutor, both for high schoolers (IB) and university students

I am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), including its Academic Editing Chapter. While I don’t usually attend conferences overseas, I make time for professional development and continuously strive to hone and expand my skills.
