Typical Client Profiles
While I work with variety of clients, I specialise in providing editing services for academics. I also frequently work with individuals who are multilinguals and non-native speakers of English. Take a look through the client profiles below to see the kinds of texts I am available to edit.
Academics
While my own academic background lies in literature, linguistics, and translation, I work across fields and disciplines for my clients. My editing projects have come from academics researching everything from comparative politics to history, from computer science to film studies, and more – so don’t hesitate to reach out no matter what your subject area is.
I offer editing services for different kinds of writing, including the following:
- Journal articles (including pre-submission inquiry, cover letter and rebuttal letter)
- Abstracts
- Book proposals
- Scholarly books
- Book chapters
- Fellowship and job application materials
- Conference papers
- PPT shows
I can provide support for different styles and citation formats, including Chicago, MLA and APA. If you are an academic who uses LaTex (e.g., via OverLeaf), I am happy to accommodate you.
Not sure if you are ready to hire an editor yet? This list of questions from fellow editor Catie Phares is a great way to check if it’s time for you to hire a professional.
Journalists and Photojournalists
I collaborate with individuals who work in the media industry, whether as journalists or photojournalists. I provide support particularly for more complex projects or those that are outside your areas of experience (grant applications!). Depending on your needs, I can work with your preferred style and citation format, and I excel at cutting words.
You can hire my editing services for any of the following:
- Pitches
- Grant or funding applications
- Biographies / Profiles
- Portfolio text
- Image captions
- Fellowship and job application materials (including resumes and cover letters)
- Book proposals
- Book manuscripts
- Newsletters
- Fact-checking and research
Multilingual, Non-native Speakers of English
If you are a multilingual and a non-native speaker of English, be assured that you have come to the right place. I regularly work with individuals from different linguistic backgrounds and will polish your writing so that it sounds fluent and natural, while keeping your voice authentic. Furthermore, I can help you identify common problems in your writing, so you will know what to look out for in the future.
Students
If you are an undergraduate or graduate student seeking editing service, please note that as a professional editor, I adhere to certain ethical standards. Because academic institutions have very different guidelines about whether they allow for proofreading or not, and what exactly they allow, I ask clients who require editing of work that is to be submitted for examination – such as an essay or a dissertation – to fill in a Code of Practice form, which must be signed off by your lecturer, advisor, or dissertation supervisor.
Looking to improve your writing? I offer customised consultation and writing development sessions, so let’s talk about what you are struggling with and how I can help you.
Other Clients
Don’t fit into any of these client profiles? No worries – just reach out and I will do my best to help you, whether by taking on your project myself or referring you to a trusted colleague.
